GEORGE TOWN – Police have picked up a South Korean pastor to assist in an investigation into a series of molestation cases involving disabled boys here.
The 54-year-old pastor, who is also speech and hearing impaired, was arrested at a church here yesterday night.
State police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan, who confirmed this, said the suspect was detained after police reports were lodged by the victims, including two boys in Bukit Mertajam.
“We received several reports involving disabled boys, among them those who are mute and hearing-disabled,” he said.
“I understand that there may be reports elsewhere in connection to the same case. We are investigating these reports. We have also confiscated the pastor’s smartphone."
The pastor has been remanded for four days. The police will investigate the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for alleged use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.
If convicted, the person can be punished with imprisonment of up to ten years or be fined or whipped or with any two of such punishments.
