KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has confirmed that he had a meeting with PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang last night. It was believed to be over the speculations that the Islamist party and Umno are intending to revive Muafakat Nasional (MN).

In his Facebook post today, the former prime minister said the two-hour meeting which was also attended by fellow PAS and Bersatu leaders went smoothly.

“Many things were agreed upon to strengthen PN in facing the 15th General Election (GE15),” he said, briefly.

Among those who attended the meeting included PAS vice president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Bersatu vice president Datuk Radzi Jidin.

Earlier, Muhyiddin had commented on a recent report that Hadi and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had met with a view to revive Umno-PAS’ MN pact.

“I read the report and I am interested to know what exactly happened.

“Were there such talks?

“What were the results and did Umno agree to it? Where would PN stand following such discussions?” he asked last Saturday, adding that he would seek an explanation from Hadi in a subsequent meeting.

Recently, the media reported that Hadi was said to have held a meeting with Zahid to revive MN in an effort to avoid a clash between the two parties in GE15.

The report also mentioned that the meeting took place last Saturday with the results of the discussion being brought to the Umno Supreme Council meeting on September 30. – The Vibes, September 27, 2022
