BUKIT KAYU HITAM – Another General Operations Force (GOF) personnel was shot while patrolling the Malaysia-Thailand border tonight, just over 24 hours after the last shooting in Padang Besar.

Lance-corporal Muhammad Amirul Amir, 26, was shot at while he was out patrolling around 7pm tonight on the Kedah side of the border, some 50km from the location where GOF personnel had clashed with two groups of smugglers.

The injury was a graze and he has lodged a police report on the incident.

A police spokesman has confirmed the incident, saying that the GOF were checking the scene to try to locate the perpetrator.

Meanwhile in a previous incident, GOF’s Corporal Baharuddin Ramli, 54, was killed in the 3.10am shootout yesterday with two groups of smugglers.

His squadmate Corporal Norihan Tari, 39 is seriously injured.

Authorities have arrested a number of the smugglers as well as requesting for assistance from the Royal Thai Police to hand over the other suspects.

The groups were believed to be smuggling ketum leaves and cough mixtures, and were carrying firearms and knives. – The Vibes, November 25, 2020
