KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers have sent a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to oppose an immediate dissolution of Parliament, which would pave the way for the 15th general election to be held this year.

A high-ranking Bersatu lawmaker has confirmed that all 12 PN cabinet members from their party and PAS have signed the letter.

“All PAS and Bersatu leaders have reached a consensus where they disagree on the elections being held this year,” the leader, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said.

Earlier today, a PN media official released details of the letter dated Monday (October 3), which was received by the palace yesterday.

In the letter, the PN ministers cited the year-end flood season and the country’s economic recovery efforts as among the reasons to hold off the national polls until next year.

“This means that the cabinet is not unanimous on the decision for the dissolution of Parliament,” the PN official said.

Currently, the administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob consists of 31 ministers and 38 deputy ministers.

The cabinet line-up is made up of 14 ministers from Barisan Nasional, 12 from PN, four from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, one from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, and another from Parti Bangsa Malaysia. – The Vibes, October 6, 2022
