KUALA LUMPUR – DAP’s national vice chairman M. Kula Segaran is set to seek a sixth term in Ipoh Barat as the party announced it will contest eight parliamentary and 19 state assembly seats in Perak for the upcoming 15th general election.

In addition to defending the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat, Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming is set to contest the Kepayang state seat while his cousin Ngeh Koo Ham will defend the Beruas parliamentary seat.

Ipoh Timor incumbent Wong Kah Woh is set to contest Taiping while incumbent Pasir Pinji assemblyman Howard Lee will replace him in the city-based constituency.

Incumbent Keranji assemblyman Choong Zhemin is set to contest the Kampar Parliament seat.

According to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the party is contesting one more seat that it had contested back in 2018.

The additional parliament seat, Gerik, will be contested by Ahmad Tarmizi while Sivakumar Naidu is set to defend the Batu Gajah parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile Loke also announced that the party will be contesting in 19 seats, defending all 18 seats it won in 2018 with an additional seat Changkat Jong following a consensus reached with its Pakatan Harapan partners.

Eight of the 19 candidates, Loke said, are aged below forty while five of them are women.

The list includes Ong Seng Guan in Pokok Assam; Teh Kok Lim (Aulong ), Loh Sze Yee (Jalong), Jenny Choy Tsi Jen (Canning), Dr Abdul Aziz Bari (Tebing Tinggi), Goh See Hua (Pasir Pinji), Ong Boon Piow (Bercham), Thulsi Thivani Manogaran (Buntong) and Cheah Pou Hian (Jelapang).

Additionally, DAP also placed Chaw Kam Foon in Menglembu; Tiw Tee Siang (Tronoh), Wong May Ing (Pantai Remis), Jason Ng Thein Yeong (Astaka), V. Bavani (Malim Nawar), Koo Haai Yen (Keranji), Woo Kah Leong (Pasir Pedamar), Sivanesan Achalingam (Sungkai), Nga Kor Ming (Kepayang) and Badrul Hisham Badarudin (Changkat Jong).

Loke in his speech said that Perak is a front-line state for PH in its efforts to capture the federal government.

“This is the factor which pushed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest in the Tambun parliament, as it is a strategy that has been agreed upon by PH’s top leadership.

“We will be on our way to success, so today is very important because three weeks from now is voting day,” he added. – The Vibes, October 28, 2022
