KLANG – Carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan, who sprang a surprise announcement yesterday that he will be withdrawing from Perikatan Nasional, was seen today registering his candidacy at the Klang nomination centre.
He told the press that he left PN due to the statements made by the sultan of Selangor “where he has clearly stated that we do not want any politicians taking power just for the purpose of earning money, and basically as the sultan has put it himself, ‘menjahanamkan negara’ (dooming the nation).
“I have hope that by contesting for this royal city, I will get the desired inspiration I need to be a neutral voice in Parliament.”
Deepak said that despite his initial interest in contesting under the PN banner, he pulled out after restrictions were placed on his candidacy.
“I briefly applied to join but did not carry on to become a member. I was not agreeable to their agenda and the restrictions placed on me as a candidate.”
He said he intends to remain neutral so he may bring forward issues without being held back by party interests.
“I do not wish to be managed by parties. I do not wish to only follow the party’s agendas. The wheeling and dealing between parties does not interest me.
“What interests me is putting everything forward, to be a brave and daring voice in Parliament. That is why I chose the royal city of Klang as my first maiden entry into politics,” Deepak said.
He said he hopes his position as a new and neutral voice will be enough to woo the voters of Klang.
“I hope the voters in Klang can see me as a neutral candidate who will bring forward the entire nation’s aspirations to fight corruption.”
However, he did not rule out cooperating with any party so long as they fit his principles.
“I will cooperate with any party that will fight corruption openly and without using it to make deals among themselves. I will cooperate with any party,” he added. – The Vibes, November 5, 2022
