KANGAR – The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil have conveyed their condolences to the family of Sergeant Baharuddin Ramli, who was killed in a shootout with smugglers recently.

The royal couple conveyed this when meeting the General Operations Force's (GOF) North Brigade commander Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji and GOF Third Battalion head Rosman Kasman at the handing over of a water purifier dispenser from the Perlis state Religious Affairs Department to GOF personnel at the Malaysia-Thai border.

The ceremony was held at a GOF post in Bukit Putih, Kuala Perlis, here.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also expressed hope that Baharuddin's widow, Relow Alang, and her family continues to be strong in dealing with their loss.

"Indeed, the demise of Sergeant Baharuddin on Tuesday is a loss to all," he said.

He said Baharuddin's sacrifices and deeds will be remembered.

“Sergeant Baharuddin is a national hero who sacrificed his life to defend the sovereignty of the country,” he said.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also wished Sergeant Norhan Tari, 39, who was seriously injured in the same incident, a speedy recovery.

In the incident last Tuesday, the duo were engaged in a shootout with smugglers about 600m from the TS9 control post on the Malaysia-Thai border in Padang Besar, Perlis.

Later today at Penang Hospital, Istana Negara representative Datuk Yahaya Othman handed over the Watikah Wira Negara (National Hero Instrument) and a certificate of appreciation to Norihan, who is currently warded in intensive care after undergoing surgery to remove three bullets lodged in his body.

Norihan appeared to be in good spirits and chatted with Istana Negara officials for a while, Yahaya told journalists here.

Norihan's family in Pahang also received a courtesy visit from the state government there, said Yahaya.

"The entire country is praying and wishing for his speedy recovery," said Yahaya. – The Vibes, November 28, 2020
