‘Pakatan could still be in power if not for traitors’

MUAR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) was capable of becoming a competent government if there was no Sheraton Move by “traitorous” leaders after winning the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018.

Ali Yunus, a 42-year-old trader, said that the political coalition should have been given a chance to complete a full term.

As such, he opined that people are actually thinking about giving PH more time to fulfil all the promises made during the last GE.

“Actually, the PH government administration was good; but due to the actions of a few backstabbing leaders, people’s view of the coalition dimmed over time.”

He also refuted claims that DAP would persecute the Malays and adopt a liberal system if it succeeded in governing the federal government.

“This is basically a political tool that the opposing parties are creating. 

“If that’s true, Malay DAP leaders would have left the party a long time ago due to the party’s alleged biased attitude.

“Nevertheless, DAP adopts a multiracial approach with many Malay leaders joining the party.

“Therefore, people are merely attempting to create a polemic,” he added.

Meanwhile, Muis Kupar, a 65-year-old civil service pensioner, said that some leaders left the PH government because they seemingly did not want to be traitors to religion and the various races in Malaysia.

“Voters see that Muhyiddin has no issues (despite leaving PH). During his time as prime minister, he solved many things, especially in terms of welfare. 

“At the same time, he has a humble nature, like his late father, Tuan Guru Muhammad Yassin.

“I’m sure it’s quite difficult for other candidates to challenge Muhyiddin’s strength so that people trust his party.

“I also believe it is difficult for the voters here to choose the leader they want,” he said.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Nurussalam Ibrahim, a 22-year-old college student, expressed his opinion that the PH government has been a failure throughout its 22 months in power.

According to him, the failure of the coalition to cause political instability should be taken seriously by all parties so as not to make various promises because it is difficult to keep them.

Rosnah Zahim, a 26-year-old student, hopes that GE15 will open the eyes of those who win so that they can understand the problems people face and keep all the promises they made, especially in terms of development and the economy.

She said that people expect Malaysia to become a well-known country around the world and to attract more foreign investors.

“I hope that this time the leader will be able to do his job well and not just make promises and leave after being elected to represent the people. Their manifesto needs to be implemented.”

In GE14, PH managed to form a government with a simple majority when it won 113 seats, which were contributed through the coalition of PKR, Bersatu, DAP, and Amanah along with the then Warisan-Upko alliance.

However, the PH administration only lasted 22 months before being replaced by the Perikatan Nasional government, which was formed after the Sheraton Move in February 2020. – The Vibes, November 14, 2022
