SANDAKAN – Sabah Bersatu said the pledge by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to steer negotiations towards resolving the state’s petroleum and gas quagmire is a significant move in the context of the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.

Its information chief, Khairul Firdaus Akbar, said the commitment expressed by the party president at the annual general assembly yesterday is not mere rhetoric.

“Whatever is to be signed in the negotiations later will definitely have a massive positive impact, spurring the petroleum and gas industry in Sabah.

“This will result in the flow of prosperity from various angles, whether economically or socially, thus guaranteeing Sabahans’ well-being,” he said in a statement.

He said Muhyiddin vowed to initiate talks as soon as possible for the benefit of Sabah folk, and as a show of gratitude to them for supporting Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), of which Perikatan Nasional is part, in the September 26 state election.

“The pledge reflects the close relationship between the GRS state government and the federal government.” – Bernama, November 29, 2020
