PASIR MAS – Those found playing in groups in floodwaters in Rantau Panjang here will be slapped with a RM1,000 compound, said police.
District police chief Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said this is to curb the spread of Covid-19, which has seen an uptick in Kelantan.
“A notification letter regarding the compound has been sent to the Pasir Mas district officer and local authorities.
“We are concerned that if no action is taken, people in the state will turn the floods into a ‘water carnival’ like in previous monsoon seasons,” he told reporters here today.
Rantau Panjang has been likened to a “water theme park” during the rainy season, with food stalls operating in areas where people gather to splash around in the floodwaters.
Roy said such traders will also face action.
“We will not compromise with those who violate regulations, whether gathering in groups or celebrating the ‘water festival’ (floods) this year.
“Local authorities will seize traders’ business equipment if they still set up stalls like in previous years.” – Bernama, November 29, 2020
