PERAK – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for all stakeholders of the unity government to put an end to politicking and instead focus on addressing the needs of the people.

In his first public event since taking office, Anwar spoke to nearly 3,000 people who attended a public feast at Muhammad Al-Fateh Mosque earlier today, where he said the unity government remains the best way forward for all Malaysians.

Noting that Malaysians were facing a multitude of socio-economic challenges, he said it was now up to an integrous political leadership and dedicated civil service to tackle these issues.

This, he added, leaves no room for incessant politicking or machinations that will ultimately jeopardise the welfare of ordinary Malaysians.

“The general election has passed. (Now is the time) to focus on the work itself. The people, regardless of those who voted for the government or the opposition, want their welfare to be taken care of.

“They want their future secured, their children’s quality of education to improve, a much more sustainable cost of living, better healthcare, and better infrastructure.

“All of this can be done with the right steps, with clean and responsible leaders who are able to push aside the weaknesses of the past and take advantage of each other’s strengths,” he said.

“What choice do we have (as lawmakers), do we continue to fight (with each other) while the people suffer or should we choose to work together to secure a future for Malaysia that is more peaceful and prosperous?”

Anwar reiterated that his unity administration consisting of Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and others, is the strongest bloc in the Dewan Rakyat, where its leaders have vowed to fight against corruption and wastage of public funds.

Earlier during the event, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said all political parties need to move on from the results of the general election and focus on revitalising the economy.

“All economic indicators have shown that the global economy will face its biggest challenge yet and we must prepare for this. We do not have much time. So let us put an end to this political polemic and work together towards political stability and revitalising the economy.”

The Perak and Pahang state governments are also the result of political cooperation between PH and BN. – The Vibes, December 2, 2022
