KUALA LUMPUR – The suggestion to give hospital cleaners a one-off payment of RM300 each was rejected today by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.
Mohd Redzuan (Bersatu-Alor Gajah) said during the Dewan Rakyat sitting today that it is the government’s policy that only personnel dealing directly with Covid-19 high-risk groups and patients, not hospital cleaners, are eligible for the one-off payment.
Earlier, Fahmi Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai) proposed for the one-off allowance to be given to hospital cleaners.
Fahmi also proposed for the one-off assistance of RM300 given to security personnel to be increased to RM500.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) is looking into giving members of the media a special allowance for the risk they face on duty during the pandemic.
Mohd Redzuan said Nadma has proposed that media personnel get the one-off RM300 allowance, the same given to security frontliners.
He said the allocation was decided in accordance with the financial capability of the country.
“Furthermore, security personnel have already been receiving a special allowance of RM200 per month starting April,” he said. – The Vibes, November 30, 2020
