PUTRAJAYA – Enforcement officers under the Health Ministry will now be equipped with body cameras to assist them in carrying out their duties, said its minister Dr Zaliha Mustaffa.
The Sekijang MP congratulated the ministry specifically for its public health and pharmacy programmes, which help initiate the use of body cameras during enforcement activities.
“The use of body cameras will not only ensure transparency in enforcement work, but also keep enforcement officers safe while carrying out their duties,” she said during the ministry’s monthly assembly today.
“Equipping enforcement officers with body cameras will also protect the ministry’s integrity while bettering its image.”
It is understood that the body cameras will be used to overcome “threats and obstacles” from the public reportedly faced by the ministry’s enforcement officers, including death threats, attempts to cause bodily injury, verbal assault, and bribe offers.
The presence of body cameras is aimed at making sure that there is sufficient evidence for enforcement officers who face the potential risk of falling victim to slander from enforcement targets. – The Vibes, December 12, 2022
