KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president-designate Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad will be stripped of their party membership by the end of this week if they fail to respond to their suspension letters.
Speaking to The Vibes, PBM president Larry Sng said he has not received any documents from the duo, including a joint resignation letter signed by Zuraida dated November 1, 2022 that has been circulating on social media.
“No, I have not (received any resignation letter from Zuraida or Nor Hizwan). Have you?” Sng jested when asked about the letter.
“Right now, we are waiting for them to respond to their suspension letter. They have till the end of this week to reply. Their membership is terminated if no reply is made in writing by then.
“Their show cause letter has been sent to each of them.”
The letter being circulated stated that Zuraida and Nor Hizwan had agreed to resign as party office-bearers; to recognise Sng’s legitimacy as party president and those of the disciplinary committee and supreme council members; that all supreme council vacancies will be filled at Sng’s discretion; Zuraida will not challenge Sng’s presidency until the triennial delegate conference in 2024; to keep the content of the letter private; and for Sng to sign the election candidate list named by Zuraida or allow her to sign the list for Peninsular Malaysia.
However, on October 29, Sng had already suspended Zuraida as a regular member, as well as 12 other supreme council members.
He claimed that the group had an “ongoing involvement in undermining the interest of the party and its leadership”.
“I strongly despise and condemn such political manoeuvring, which has undermined the trust in my leadership, and has caused much confusion to party members and the general public at large.
“As such, their positions will be suspended until a disciplinary committee is set up to look into the matter after the election.” – The Vibes, December 20, 2022
