KUALA LUMPUR – The Road Transport Department (RTD) is planning to launch “high-quality” road tax stickers by this year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said regarding complaints over stickers that are flimsy and prone to fading.

“I am aware that many people complain about the low quality of the road tax stickers,” he said, adding that this is among several department plans for 2023.

He addressed the issue via Facebook last night, saying: “This issue is completely in our attention and a substantial reform will be implemented this year.”

He posted this after meeting with RTD’s upper management during which he was briefed on its plans for the year.

Loke added that the department is also working to digitalise its counter system in order to address the problem of lengthy waiting times.

“Our main agenda is to simplify the affairs of the people,” he said. “I don’t want to see the public standing in long queues at the RTD offices.”

He further said that any new initiative implemented will be carefully planned and an announcement will be made when preparations are complete.

Earlier, road tax stickers became a topic of fierce discussion on social media due to their dismal quality.

Among the complaints are that they become blurry before the road tax period is over, and that they leave glue residue on a car’s windshield when removed.

In addition, long queues and waiting times at RTD counters also continue to draw the ire of users. – The Vibes, January 4, 2023
