KOTA KINABALU – Hiking at Mount Kinabalu will be allowed again soon in line with the relaxation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures for outdoor activities, including diving, under the conditional movement control order.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the state government through Sabah Parks is preparing to open up all nature parks to local visitors in stages but under strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) starting December 7.

“Mount Kinabalu climbing activities will also be opened in stages starting on  December 7. For a start, the capacity in terms of total climbers allowed is not more than 50 percent  compared to the total capacity of climbers allowed before the MCO was implemented in Sabah,” he said.

Based on the park’s current limited capacity at Mount Kinabalu of 180 climbers, this would mean only 90 climbers will be allowed.
