KUALA LUMPUR – The flood situation in Perak and Kelantan improved this evening and most of the victims were allowed to go home, while the flood relief centres (PPS) in Melaka and Sarawak were closed.
In Perak, the PPS at SK Titi Gantung, Bota in Perak Tengah district was closed at 4pm today and all 10 affected residents were allowed to return home.
A state Disaster Management Committee secretariat spokesperson, said following the development, only 27 flood victims were left in Perak and all were housed at PPS SK Changkat Lobak, Bagan Serai in Kerian district.
In Kelantan, the number of evacuees at PPS SK Tok Deh, Pasir Mas was down to 18 as at 5pm today, compared to 22 in the morning.
Pasir Mas Social Welfare Department officer, Azizan Aziz said out of the number, four evacuees from two families, including a five-day-old baby girl, were allowed to return home at 2pm.
In Melaka, the PPS SK Parit Gantong, Sungai Rambai in Jasin, was closed at 1.30pm, said Melaka Civil Defence Force director, Lt-Col Effendy Ali.
He said 12 victims from Kampung Tasek, Kampung Tersusun and Kampung Parit Penghulu were allowed to return home.
In Sarawak, the state Disaster Management Committee announced the closure of the PPS at Dewan Suarah Bintulu at 2 pm today, after the flood waters in the city area receded.
The committee’s secretariat head, Major Ismail Mahedin said the 71 victims placed at the PPS since Sunday, were allowed to return home.
In Terengganu, the PPS at SMK Merchang, Marang, that sheltered eight evacuees from three families was closed at 10.30am. – Bernama, December 2, 2020
