KUALA LUMPUR – The RM100 million in Budget 2021 for tahfiz and religious schools, and “sekolah pondok” will be used for maintenance, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the provision is under Supply 11 of the Federal Expenditure Estimates 2021, where a total of RM922 million is allocated.

“Of the RM922 million, RM120 million will be used to improve the supplementary food plan for poor students, and RM100 million is a matching grant for NGOs and social enterprises.”

These allocations will help address child abuse issues, and provide subsidies for public buses, grants for nurseries, senior citizen activity centres and mobile ATM services, especially in the Sabah and Sarawak interior, he said. – The Vibes, December 3, 2020
