KUALA LUMPUR – RM21.1 million will be allocated to repair slopes in the Batang Kali area following recommendations from the Public Works Department.

The Selangor government said in a statement that the recommendations were presented during the exco meeting earlier today.

About a month ago, a deadly landslide hit a campsite in Batang Kali, which killed 31 victims and left 61 others injured.

The victims, mostly teachers and their family members, were staying there during the end-of-the-year holidays.

Currently, all outdoor activities in the Batang Kali area have been suspended following the tragedy as the authorities are focusing on repair and maintenance works.

The state has also decided that guidelines on any business activity as well as camping sites will be prepared jointly by the state government and local authorities for public safety and well-being.

The state is going to allocate RM50 million to a road-paving project involving the maintenance and widening of roads, and RM500,000 per state constituency to repair, maintain, and upgrade public facilities under Phase 2 of Projek Selangor Penyayang.

On the landslide at Bukit Permai Phase 2 in Ampang, the state plans to issue a warning to people living in the area as it is deemed unsafe due to unpredictable ground movement.

The state will also be increasing the amount for Jom Shopping Perayaan vouchers for senior citizens to RM200, while the monthly household limit will be increased to RM3,000 a month.

Beneficiaries of Program Skim Mesra Emas can also apply for this voucher, while RM16.8 million will be allocated for this programme. – The Vibes, January 16, 2023
