IPOH – Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has resigned as Perak menteri besar a day after losing confidence in the state assembly.

He was seen entering Istana Kinta at around 3pm to tender his resignation letter to Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah.

“At 3pm, December 5, 2020, I was granted an audience with His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Shah where I tendered my resignation as menteri besar and by default, (dissolved) the entire state executive committee line-up,” said Faizal during a press conference that started at 6pm.

It was the second time he had an audience with the sultan. The first was yesterday where he briefed the sultan on losing the motion of confidence in the state assembly.

Faizal, who is also the Chenderiang assemblyman, was ousted from his office during a vote of confidence yesterday morning.

He had 48 votes against him, 10 votes in support, and one vote that was damaged or abstained.

Before announcing his resignation, Faizal gave a 30-minute speech detailing the state’s achievements under his administration.

He then bid farewell to the Perak civil service and reminded them to always plan ahead, saying that those who fail to plan are planning to fail.

Faizal also tearfully thanked his wife for supporting him as menteri besar.

He asked Bersatu members to not seek vengeance over him losing his political office. – The Vibes, December 5, 2020
