KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu delegates at the party’s annual general assembly this weekend are expected to press for earlier state elections, party deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said.

This comes after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was charged with corruption today.

Bernama quoted Faizal as saying that although calling for earlier state elections was not on the list of motions, he expected it to be raised.

The six states to hold elections are Selangor, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Negri Sembilan.

Their menteris besar and chief ministers last month agreed to consider dissolving their respective state assemblies in the last two weeks of June to pave the way for simultaneous elections.

Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu are led by PAS, Bersatu’s coalition partner in Perikatan Nasional.

Bersatu, which is holding its annual general assembly for 2022 this weekend, will also hold a ceramah tomorrow night to protest Muhyiddin’s charges.

The PN chairman and former prime minister was charged today with four counts of abuse of power involving RM232.5 million and two charges of receiving RM195 million in illicit funds.

He has claimed trial to all charges and was released on RM2 million bail. He is also expected to face another charge on Monday. – The Vibes, March 10, 2023
