KLUANG – Bukit Aman’s Department of Internal Security and Public Order (JKDNKA) will apply for an allocation from the government to replace the department's bulletproof vests which are now over 10 years old.

Its director, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Jaafar said presently, there were about 12,000 members of the General Operations Force (GOF) and Marine Police Force (MPF) in need of the vest.

He said this was because they were not only involved in various operations such as ‘Op Benteng’ as well as monitoring of the country's borders.

“We will discuss with the government to obtain the allocation. By the end of this month, we will get the cost for the bulletproof vests.

“The discussions and application for allocation will also include other equipment such as night-vision binoculars and several vehicles for conducting anti-crime operations,” he said at a news conference after visiting the 5th Battalion, GOF Officers’ Mess in Simpang Renggam, here, today.

Also present were JKDNKA (GOF) deputy director, Datuk Kasuahdi Ali; GOF Central Brigade commander, SAC Muhammad Abdul Halim and 5th Battalion GOF commander, Supt Dimin Awang.

Abd Rahim said the GOF Central Brigade had successfully conducted 157 raids, arrested 511 people and seized various types of goods worth RM32.8 million this year from January until December 3.

“All the raids are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1963, Customs Act 1967, Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, Wildlife Conservation Act 2010, Forestry Act 1984/89, Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, Fisheries Act 1985 and MACC Act.

“We also hope the public can assist the police in providing information, especially on intrusion of the country’s border areas for smuggling activities,” he said. – Bernama, December 7, 2020.
