BUKIT MERTAJAM – A residents’ association today lodged a police report against Penang Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy over allegedly defamatory remarks he made on the management rights of the Taman Chai Leng multipurpose hall.
Taman Chai Leng Residents’ Association chairman Lim Jit Leong said Ramasamy’s statement in a press conference on Saturday undermined the credibility of the group, which manages the hall, and could spark misunderstanding and tension among residents.
“We would like to request that police investigate Ramasamy, who made baseless allegations against the association,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the Seberang Prai Tengah district police headquarters here.
Among Ramasamy’s claims are that the hall’s rental is too high and the association’s financial report is not transparent.
“Therefore, we demand that Ramasamy clean up our now-tarnished reputation, and request that he reviews the land lease period for the hall, under the management of the Taman Chai Leng Residents’ Association, for another 30 years,” said Lim.
He said it is regrettable that the group’s efforts to meet Ramasamy, who is also Prai assemblyman, since August have been fruitless.
Last weekend, Ramasamy said it has been agreed that the land lease will not be extended, and the hall’s management rights will be granted to the Taman Chai Leng Village Community Management Council in Prai next year. – Bernama, December 7, 2020
