IPOH – Perak PAS has withdrawn its request to have an audience with Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, where the party had been expected to inform the ruler of its support for or opposition to Umno’s menteri besar candidate.

The Islamist outfit had been scheduled to meet the sultan at Istana Kinta at 3pm today, but a source told The Vibes that PAS reps have received instructions from the central leadership to postpone the meeting.

“PAS has requested to withdraw their audience (with the sultan) at 3pm. They received instructions from the party’s central leadership requesting that the meeting today be put off.

“At 3.30pm, Pakatan Harapan leaders will be granted an audience.”

Earlier, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told reporters that his party has more than the majority required to form the state government.

However, Free Malaysia Today reported that state PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria said the chapter is still waiting for the green light from the central leadership to endorse an Umno-led administration.

He said PAS assemblymen will comply with instructions from the party’s top brass.

Dewan Negara Perak member Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini has told the press that the menteri besar swearing-in ceremony will only take place once Sultan Nazrin is convinced that the Umno candidate has a simple majority to form the state government. – The Vibes, December 8, 2020
