KOTA KINABALU – Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman said the completion of the city's bus rapid transit (BRT) system will now depend on federal funding under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
“The remaining planning and action plan have already been completed and the overall implementation would be done in stages depending on the availability of funding,” he told The Vibes.
He said the budget for the project has run out and the state will request for more funding under the National Economic Development Plan.
Nordin did not give any time frame as to when the BRT system would be completed.
The Kota Kinabalu BRT project is to improve bus services in the city, with targeted completion originally set for this year.
Under the BRT project, four integrated bus terminals were planned, with only two currently in operation – the Northern Inanam Integrated bus terminal and Kota Kinabalu Sentral terminal, which was completed last year.
The remaining two stations – Southern Terminal Kepayan and Eastern Terminal in Penampang – have yet to commence construction, according to City Hall officials.
The first rolling plan for the 12th Malaysia Plan will begin next year. – The Vibes, December 9, 2020
