ALOR STAR – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who heads the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, has sworn to defend the national unity government at “all costs”.
Following rumours that some 15 BN parliamentarians were conspiring with Perikatan Nasional (PN) to force by-elections, Zahid insisted his coalition had pledged loyalty to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Zahid told this to a crowd at the Himpunan Madani Kedah event which included a mini-concert at Dataran Stargate, here, this evening.
He said that Kedah will only enjoy further development if the state government is the same as the federal unity government.
“Anwar will resolve the water supply issue once and for all while ferries to Langkawi will revert to 15 daily trips once the federal side hastens dredging works,” he said.
He said this was why it was important for Kedah voters to support the unity government.
On BN’s decision to join forces with Anwar and Pakatan Harapan, Zahid said that BN leaders followed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree to form a unity government for the sake of political stability.
“BN cherishes political stability at all costs. We must do our part, so we agreed (with the Agong).”
Zahid said under Anwar, the national unity government currently has 148 parliamentary seats and enjoys a two-thirds majority.
“We must ensure that Anwar remains (prime minister) until the 16th general election. (We’ve had) enough of instability. We had three prime ministers after the 14th general election.”
Zahid said that stability in Kedah will allow the state to prosper, as well as the nation as a whole. – The Vibes, April 28, 2023
