KUALA LUMPUR – The alleged ragging incident involving an air force trainee has been brought to police’s attention, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is also conducting its own internal probe into the matter.

This was confirmed by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who said he had been informed that the victim’s father had lodged a police report following the incident at a training centre in Kuantan, Pahang.

“Police have entered the premises to conduct its investigation, and the investigating officer has done his questioning. The probe is ongoing.

“However, based on the police investigation, RMAF has also initiated its own internal probe,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Defence Ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house, here, today.

Mohamad said RMAF will ensure that its probe into the case covers all bases and that the suspects would face disciplinary action if they are found guilty of committing the alleged offences.

The minister was commenting on a claim on social media made by an individual that his brother has been the victim of ragging by his seniors while undergoing his air force training.

Among other things, the person said his brother was physically assaulted to the point of temporarily losing his hearing, stripped naked, threatened, and had a lit cigarette placed on his tongue.

His ear was also allegedly bitten by the perpetrators.

The individual also said that as a result of the ragging, his brother is now afraid of joining the others during mealtimes, and only eats instant noodles in his room. – The Vibes, May 2, 2023
