BUKIT MERTAJAM – More than 20,000 people thronged the Madani Aidilfitri open house at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Permatang Pauh campus here to catch a glimpse of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar arrived at the campus at 12.15pm. He proceeded to the tents at the main hall to meet and greet those who have been waiting for him since 8am.
He also entertained numerous requests from the crowd for selfies.
Meanwhile, Penang governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak arrived at the campus with his wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor.
They were greeted by Anwar and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, as well as former chief minister Lim Guan Eng.

Meanwhile, Anwar reiterated that the Malaysia Madani open houses provided the space and opportunity for members of the unity government to meet the people.
The open houses here today saw more than 20 booths offering food items such as rendang, satay, and ketupat.
Last month, the prime minister dismissed claims that the government had ulterior motives in organising the Madani Aidilfitri open house in six states
He had said the programmes were government efforts to get closer to the rakyat.
“Governments everywhere do it (open house events). It is not a waste because we give food to the people. To me, it is not wasteful.”
This year’s open houses are held in Kedah on April 29; Penang (May 6); Negri Sembilan (May 7); Kelantan (May 12); Terengganu (May 13) and Selangor (May 14). – The Vibes, May 6, 2023
