IPOH – After instructing assemblymen to snub a royal summons to Istana Kinta, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is now seeking an audience with Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
A source close to the party leadership told The Vibes that a letter was sent to the palace today, requesting a meeting.
“Tok Guru (Hadi) wants to explain to Sultan Nazrin what happened earlier. He was also advised to seek His Royal Highness’ forgiveness over the perceived snub.”
The Marang MP’s decision could stem from the fact that none of the state’s three PAS assemblymen was sworn in as exco today, despite being members of the Perikatan Nasional administration.
Out of the five excos who took their oaths of office under new Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad’s leadership, four are Umno members, with one from Bersatu.
The Perak constitution requires one menteri besar and four excos, at least, to form the state government, and allows for a maximum of 10 excos to help administer the state.
It is believed that negotiations are ongoing over the five other exco positions.
Originally, PAS’ three assemblymen were slotted to meet Sultan Nazrin at 3pm on December 8, when they were supposed to endorse Saarani as Umno’s menteri besar candidate.
However, they made a request to withdraw their audience with the ruler due to instructions from their party’s central leadership.
Once the news was out, the party was lambasted by social media users, with many describing its actions as “rude” and “disrespecting and insulting the royal institution”.
Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan in a statement said the central leadership had instructed state commissioner and Gunung Semanggol assemblyman Razman Zakaria to request another audience.
He was granted the audience, together with Selama rep Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin and Kubu Gajah’s Khalil Yahaya, at 4.30pm at Istana Kinta, where they presented their statutory declarations in support of Saarani. – The Vibes, December 10, 2020
