KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today said he was prepared to work with former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the sake of “race, religion and country”.
In a statement, the Perikatan Nasional chairman said recent political developments had left the Malay-Muslim community here at a crossroads.
Dr Mahathir, 97, had joined Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) as his new platform in February, along with 13 other members from Pejuang. Putra is led by Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
The relationship between Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin was strained following the Sheraton Move in February 2020 which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Dr Mahathir, who was the prime minister at the time had then labelled Muhyiddin as a “traitor”.
However, Dr Mahathir recently said he was willing to work with Muhyiddin so long as they could reach a consensus on the objectives they want to achieve together.
