BUKIT MERTAJAM – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is fast becoming fodder for Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) campaign in Penang, even before state elections are officially called.

At a PKR machinery event here last night, two state party leaders devoted most of their speeches to berating the PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) elections director.

Penang PKR Wanita chief Nurhidayah Che Rose highlighted Sanusi’s repeated stance that Penang belonged to Kedah, even though this was against the federal constitution, as well as his use of a Hokkien expletive during a ceramah recently.

Nurhidayah said she was embarrassed that a fellow Muslim spoke uncouthly and saw nothing wrong with spreading lies.

“He represents an Islamist party but his behaviour is contrary to (Islam),” she said at the launch of the Penang PKR women and youth election machinery last night.

Her audience, comprising mainly of PKR members, roared in approval at her criticism of Sanusi.

Nurhidayah then urged voters to teach “liars a lesson” by not voting for PN candidates in the coming polls.

She also pointed out Sanusi’s failings as Kedah menteri besar, noting that the state had a higher rate of poverty than Penang.

“So, it is unrealistic for Sanusi to say that the rich can co-exist with the poor in Penang if PN takes over, as we have fewer poor here. We are doing fairly well, and steps are in place to further improve the quality of life for Penangites.”

She added that people from Kedah were even leaving the state to seek work in Penang.

“Yet, Sanusi goes around saying that Penang belongs to Kedah when he should be grateful that as fellow Malaysians, we are helping each other,” Nurhidayah said.

Penang PKR Youth head Muhammad Fadzli Roslan then took a stab at Sanusi, calling him a “comedian” instead of serving the people.

“If we want comedians, there is a lot of content on entertainment channels.

“We do not want our politicians to be comedians. We want them to be problem solvers to address poverty, high living costs and environmental challenges.”

Taking aim at Sanusi’s claims that Penang belongs to Kedah, Fadzli urged voters in the state to “rise up and defend their birth and home state”.

Fadzli also said Sanusi should focus on developing Kedah and not be obsessed with Penang. – The Vibes, June 6, 2023.
