KUALA LUMPUR – The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) will refer several allegations made against its chairman Prof Datuk Rahmat Mohamad to the Prime Minister’s Department’s legal affairs division for advice and guidance.
Suhakam said in a statement that the move is to ensure that the inquiry to be conducted is transparent and independent.
“Suhakam would like to address some of the allegations made against the chairman as well as the concerns raised by some non-governmental organisations regarding Suhakam’s internal activities. It is important that such allegations be addressed by an inquiry conducted by an independent body.
“We stand firm by our commitment to ensure that an independent inquiry is carried out in order to maintain the trust and confidence of society,” it said. – Bernama, June 25, 2023
