SHAH ALAM – Who is Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) menteri besar candidate should the coalition manage to wrest Selangor from Pakatan Harapan (PH)?

According to Selangor PAS commissioner Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir, the coalition will only reveal their candidate if they win Selangor on August 12.

Roslan did not discount the fact that all of PN’s candidates are qualified to be considered for the role of MB.

Citing Selangor’s laws, he stressed that the right to appoint a menteri besar belonged to the Selangor sultan, by which the party with a majority – at least 29 seats – will be called for an audience at the palace to present their menteri besar candidate.

“Let us win first… if we are given the mandate, we will make the decision to present qualified names to the Selangor sultan,” he said at a press conference to introduce the 56 PN candidates contesting in the state election.

Roslan is of the opinion that the six parliamentary seats in Selangor won by PN in the last general election served as a sign that they could win in the state.

“Now we have six parliamentary seats in the rural areas, there itself are 16 Malay-majority state seats (we) can win,” he said.

He also said they would give a tough fight in Kuala Kubu Bharu, which is under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat held by PN. The same can be said for Sekinchan, he said, as it is under the Sg Besar parliamentary constituency, also won by PN.

Selangor Bersatu liaison committee secretary Datuk Azman Yaakob, who was also at the press conference, expressed confidence that PN will easily win a simple majority of 29 seats to form the next state government. – The Vibes, July 31, 2023
