MIRI – A video of Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud supposedly at an overseas location is being circulated via Instagram and TikTok by his wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib.

Local Sarawak media have picked up the video and shared the story on their news updates today.

The video also contains a message from Raghad to Taib.

“Happy Sunday to everyone,” she says in the video. “Hello Tun, hello husband, I love you. Long life to you ......”

The location of the video or the exact whereabouts of Taib was not disclosed.

Speculation about the actual health status of Taib had resulted in rumours circulating since late June.

On August 3, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg had shot down false claims about the severity of Taib’s condition, saying that the governor had recovered from his illness but still remained overseas, and would come home once his doctors allowed him.

“They (those who spread the false news) do not have the real story, that is why it is like that (the false news).

“The (real) explanation is this. He (Taib) is taking a break and had fallen sick outside the country.

“His condition now is that he has recovered but he is still resting overseas, that is all,” Abang Johari had told reporters.

On July 3, a senior state officer said the identity of the original author or group who had written and spread the false news that Taib was in serious ill-health remained a mystery. – The Vibes, August 7, 2023
