KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran, who was the lead prosecutor in Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial today, confirmed she had opted for an early retirement.

She was the lead deputy public prosecutor in Zahid’s case, in which he is accused of 47 charges comprising 12 of criminal breach of trust, eight of corruption, and 27 of money laundering tens of millions of Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

“Yes, I applied for early retirement and applied for leave starting November 1,” she told Berita Harian when contacted.

In a statement yesterday, Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun said Raja Rozela had submitted an application for early retirement on April 3, which was approved and will come into effect on Nov 1.

He said the decision to drop Raja Rozela in Zahid’s corruption case was to ensure continuity following the latter’s request for early retirement.

“Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar has been chosen as the lead prosecutor in the case involving Zahid based on his 30 years of experience as deputy public prosecutor.

“He is currently the Appellate and Trial Division head which handles Federal Court and Appeals Court cases, including the Sulu invasion in Lahad Datu, Sabah,” he said. – Bernama, August 9, 2023
