KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor’s caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has lobbed a letter of demand at his Kedah counterpart Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over an allegedly defamatory speech the latter recently delivered while campaigning for the upcoming six-state elections this Saturday.

“At 7:36pm last night, a demand letter from me was delivered through my lawyer to the menteri besar of Kedah, for cast aspersions in a speech he had delivered on August 2 in Jitra, Kedah.”

He said that Sanusi has slandered in claiming, among other things, that Amirudin had given state land for free to private companies.

In the letter, he demanded that Sanusi withdraw and apologise for his statement within 48 hours, and guarantee that the alleged defamation is not repeated.

He also asked Sanusi to pay damages of RM10 million for allegedly disseminating fake news and slander to tarnish the institution of the Selangor menteri besar and the state government.

“However, if YAB Datuk Seri Sanusi fails to do so, I will have to proceed with legal action through the court process,” he said.

On August 2, Sanusi, in his Jelajah Mega PN Best Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera speech at Dataran Darul Aman, Jitra, alleged that there is a scandal involving Amirudin and Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan, who allegedly wanted to implement a RM10 billion project in Sg Klang.

Sanusi is the PAS election director for the upcoming six-state elections scheduled this Saturday. He is striving to defend the PAS-led Kedah government under his leadership.

Incidentally, Amirudin, who is the Selangor PKR chief, is leading the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance in defending his leadership of the state.

Tan’s Berjaya Land issued a letter to Sanusi on August 5, demanding an apology from him and seeking RM200 million in compensation for the remarks made by him on the Selangor Maritime Gateway.

Amirudin had told reporters yesterday that he would initiate legal action to defend his credibility as the menteri besar, the state administration and civil servants who were also affected by Sanusi’s allegations.

“I have to defend my integrity and governance of the Selangor government,” he had said yesterday.

“...can’t we defend ourselves (from slanders)... this is the case of speaking without thinking, (which) has been happening so many times… defaming me, but this time, it is against the credibility of the administration and civil servants.” – The Vibes, August 9, 2023
