KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was among the first to cast their vote today.
He was seen at the SJKC Selayang Baru polling centre along with his wife Masdiana Muhamad at 8.29am.
He arrived on a motorcycle with his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad to cast their votes for the Taman Templer constituency.
Over in Hulu Kelang, where Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s former right-hand man Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is standing as a Perikatan Nasional candidate, a boisterous voter turned up at about 7.10am, all geared up to vote.
Dressed in red and black, Azmin’s brother, celebrity Azwan Ali, was among the early birds who arrived before the voting centre at SK Klang Gate opened.
With smartphone in hand as he walked around, Azwan, who is more popularly known as Diva AA, told reporters he was “doing live” on camera.
Azwan and Azmin’s relationship had seen some controversy in the past. Last year, Azwan had expressed interest to fight his brother for the Gombak parliamentary seat during the 15th general election. However, he pulled out at the last minute, citing a dream he had of his late mother.
The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) this morning called for all stakeholders in the state elections to ensure voters come out to cast their votes.
Chairman Thomas Fann said all-out efforts were needed to get all 9.7 million voters to exercise their right.
With many observers for the polls – both from EC and Bersih – Fann is confident there will be no case of phantom voters.
“It is very unlikely for phantom voters to surface, as by now, the voting process is closely monitored by polling agents and counting agents as well as the EC’s election observers,” he said.
