PETALING JAYA – A Facebook post has gone viral since yesterday, allegedly made by an “Ah Long” (illegal moneylender or loan shark).

While moneylenders advertising on social media is hardly news, this was a different kind of post and netizens have been left baffled by the content.

A Facebook account that goes by “DK DK” that has over 2,000 friends but no identifiable profile picture posted an apology in the Batu Pahat group.

Indirectly admitting to being an Ah Long, the post acknowledged that they splashed red paint on the wrong house twice recently.

The house owner went on Facebook to lament that they did not borrow money from any moneylender and yet their house had been splashed with red paint.

DK DK apologised to the owner, saying they had made a mistake on the address.

The moneylender said they were willing to compensate the house owner with regard to repair works.

DK DK also clarified that the house owner did not owe any money.

The post has garnered over 3,200 shares and 1,000 comments since it was published yesterday.

One Facebook user remarked jokingly that the post was probably an attempt at publicity to inform the public that the loan shark was polite.

Another urged the house owner to lodge a police report so the police would conduct more patrols in the neighbourhood.

While the post seems dubious, DK DK shared a photo of the house they wrongly targeted with red paint smeared across the front.

A netizen remarked how this particular Ah Long had manners.

Another said it was a rare occurrence for an Ah Long to apologise.

“This Ah Long must be nice to his brothers,” she said.

“Restore the whole thing as per previous. And after that, willingly give yourself up to the police for crime and damage to property. Your dumb apology means squat,” said another. – The Vibes, August 16, 2023
