MIRI – A blaze at an industrial cum residential estate in Miri destroyed 21 cars at a vehicle storage premises and razed a building storing 300 engine-oil drums.

The fire happened about 10pm yesterday at the Krokop Industrial Estate, about 3km from Miri city centre.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, in a press statement today, said the vehicle storage facility was razed together with 21 vehicles of various makes.

“The fire started at the vehicle storage building, destroying all the cars.

“The fire had also spread to the adjacent building that stored 300 engine-oil drums.

“Firefighters who had rushed to the site managed to stop the fire from reaching the oil drums,” the statement said.

There were no injuries from the fire.

A probe is ongoing regarding how the fire had started and the amount of losses incurred, the statement added.

The Krokop Industrial Estate is the site of many vehicle workshops, ship repair facilities, manufacturing factories and shops and office buildings.
