MIRI – Police in Julau, a remote district in central Sarawak, have arrested a young man who allegedly used homemade firearms to shoot at his girlfriend’s family car after she had jilted him.
The attack took place on Wednesday about 10.45pm, said district police chief Andam Sulin in a press statement today.
Two shotguns and two airguns were seized from the suspect, who is currently held under remand, he added.
The suspect, in his 20s, had allegedly fired at the driver’s door of the woman’s family car.
“It was said that he was angry after supposedly being rejected by her.”
The incident took place in a residential area in Jalan Wak Buku, Sg Pinang, near Pakan town.
“Police arrested him in town and seized homemade firearms,” said Sulin.
Police are probing the incident under two different offences.
“The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempting to cause grievous hurt that can lead to death).
“It is also being probed into under the Firearms Act 1960.”
Sulin stressed that it is illegal to possess firearms without a permit.
Section 307 of the Penal Code carries a maximum sentence of 10 years jail and whipping while the Firearms Act 1960 has a maximum seven-year jail term and whipping. – The Vibes, August 26, 2023
