PETALING JAYA – Datuk Adam Rosly has denied all allegations that he had abused his domestic worker, who is now under the care of the Indonesian consulate.
In a statement, the former Ampang PKR Youth chief said the allegations are slanderous and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
“My family and I have given our statements to police and also handed over all relevant evidence.
“These are vile and baseless accusations,” he said.
Earlier today, it was reported that a politician had allegedly told the worker to strip before scalding her with hot water as punishment for leaving the front gate open.
He also allegedly withheld her salary for the four years she worked with him, in addition to verbally abusing her.
In another incident, the helper said he made her splay out her hands on the floor and had thrown a flower pot on her hands.
“This broke my little finger and permanently disfigured it,” said the 57-year-old worker, who began working for the politician in 2018.
‘It wasn’t me, it was them’
Adam claimed that he had several helpers, and that the bruises shown in pictures published were a result of a fight between the alleged victim and the other helpers.
“In fact, I had once broken up a fight between the helpers. They were even using knives, and I have video recordings to prove this,” he said.
He also said that in 2018 and 2019, a few of his helpers ran away, but the one who he was accused of abusing remained with the family.
“If she was abused, why didn’t she also run away? I leave the matter to police to probe,” he added.
PKR chief organising secretary Zahir Hassan confirmed that Adam is still a party member but no longer holds any position.
In 2021, Adam served a six-month jail term and was fined RM30,000 after the Court of Appeal upheld a conviction against him for giving false statements and submitting fake documents to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
A three-member bench comprising Datuk Yaacob Md Sam, Datuk P. Ravinthran and Datuk Ahmad Nasfy Yasin dismissed Adam’s appeal.
The court affirmed the sessions court’s decision on April 26, 2018 which sentenced Adam to six months in jail and fined him RM30,000 after finding him guilty of six counts of giving false statements and submitting fake documents to MACC during an investigation in 2017 into claims of his extraordinary wealth. – The Vibes, September 4, 2023
