AN eight-year-old girl died from several suspicious injuries on her body, believed to have been the victim of abuse in an incident in Taiping, last Thursday.

Taiping District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Malek Ismail said police received a report on the victim's death from the Taiping Hospital medical officer.

He said the child was taken to the hospital unconscious and placed in the Red Zone at 12.43 pm.

"The doctor on duty performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 30 minutes, but the victim did not show any response and was confirmed dead at 1.12 pm.

"Further examinations found that there were several suspicious injuries on the victim's body, while the autopsy results confirmed the cause of death was injuries to the head and neck due to a blunt object," he said in a statement today.

Following that, Abdul Malek said the police opened an investigation paper under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He said four individuals, consisting of two men and two women aged between 27 and 53, who are also family members of the victim, had been arrested to assist in the investigation.

"All suspects have been remanded for seven days starting March 27 to enable further investigations to be carried out," he said. – March 28, 2026
