KUCHING – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged to address and resolve all concerns raised in the letters and notes presented directly to the king by the people of Sabah and Sarawak during His Majesty’s Kembara Kenali Borneo drive on the Pan Borneo Highway.

Anwar confirmed that he received all the letters during his audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Thursday.

“During my audience with the king on Thursday, His Majesty was deeply moved and touched by the overwhelming display of affection shown by the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” Anwar said.

Anwar went on to describe the sense of responsibility he felt as prime minister when the king entrusted him with the letters.

He even playfully picked up a file, presumably containing the letters, stating: “This is the genuine love of our people, and I accept this weighty responsibility.”

“Insya-Allah, I give you my word that I will instruct all relevant authorities to meticulously review and address each and every issue to the best of our abilities.”

Anwar made these assurances during his Malaysia Day address at the Unity Stadium here tonight.

Anwar also pledged that any issues beyond the purview of the federal government would be passed to the leadership of Sabah and Sarawak, emphasising a collaborative approach to resolving regional concerns.

Also present at the Malaysia Day celebrations were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah went on an 11-day drive tour covering 2,154km across Sabah and Sarawak that ended Thursday. – The Vibes, September 16, 2023
