SG SIPUT – Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng is slated to arrive in Malaysia at midnight to assist the authorities in their probe into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said that the government’s priority is to recover assets tied to the scandal.

“(Regarding Ng) we’ll leave it to the authorities and enforcement agencies to conduct their investigation.

“I’m aware of the matter as many relevant agencies besides the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) are under the Home Ministry.

“By right, if there are no setbacks, he will arrive today at midnight,” Saifuddin told a press conference today.

Yesterday, the media reported that Ng will be handed over to Malaysia to face charges here.

Ng had earlier received a 10-year jail sentence in New York for his role in embezzling billions of dollars in 1MDB money.

Saifuddin noted that Ng was only in the US temporarily prior to this to face trial there.

“He was sentenced to 10 years’ jail, but has yet to serve his prison term.

“We’re not done (with our probe yet)...so we’ve informed the US Justice Department (DoJ) through the AGC that once the US trial is over, we can get him back.

“In the spirit of our agreement, the DoJ agreed to send him back here for us to continue our investigations, whether on 1MDB or Goldman Sachs.”

When asked about Ng’s arrival location, Saifuddin only replied: “Somewhere safe.” – The Vibes, October 7, 2023
