KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today revealed that he received “many threats” from foreign countries over Malaysia’s tenacity in backing the Palestinian cause.
The prime minister said as long as he has the people’s trust, he refuses to bow down and cower to any forms of intimidation regarding the nation’s stance.
“I received many threats…I said, ‘You chose the wrong person.’
“As long as I have the rakyat’s mandate, I will not back down and simply be intimidated like that,” he said when delivering his special message at the Malaysia Stands With Palestine assembly at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil last night.
Anwar also lambasted the United States’ apparent double standards in only condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and turning a blind eye against the Palestinians’ suffering, in fact publicly siding with Israel in the matter.
Support from Europe and the US, he said, has emboldened Israel’s actions.
“It is a level of insanity to allow people to be butchered, babies to be killed, hospitals to be bombed, and schools to be destroyed…these are acts of barbarism.
“We observe that when Israel invaded Palestine, there was silence. What kind of justice is this? It’s the law of the jungle.”
The prime minister also shared the high appreciation expressed by Arab nations such as Qatar, Bahrain and Egypt towards Malaysia’s dedication in elevating and amplifying the Palestinian cause.
However, he added that many leaders of Islamic nations he met recently admitted that the Palestinian crisis is a difficult issue to navigate, due to Israel’s arrogance, having the US and the UK as its pillars.
“Their (the Palestinians’) future is so bleak…Israel’s army could possibly continue invading Gaza.
“The situation has been tumultuous in recent weeks…more have perished in Israel’s hands.
“We have faith in Allah’s help, but what’s important is that we must continue to lift their spirits and give every kind of support for Palestinians to be free,” he said, ending his address with “Long live Palestine!” and “Free Palestine!”. – The Vibes, October 25, 2023
