PETALING JAYA – Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman has temporarily stepped down from his post as Muda president.

The Muar MP told a press conference that he made the decision to enable him to clear his name in court.

The party’s deputy president and Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, will take over his duties.

This follows the high court’s decision this morning to sentence the former youth and sports minister to seven years’ jail, a RM10 million fine and two strokes of the cane.

This after he was convicted on four charges of abetting in criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering linked to RM1.12 million belonging to Armada, Bersatu’s Youth wing.

Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case.

“I feel I don’t deserve the role anymore and will vacate my position immediately while I clear my name in court,” said Syed Saddiq.

However, he will continue to be a Muda member. – The Vibes, November 9, 2023
