KUALA LUMPUR - National track cycling champion, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang has advised local cycling enthusiasts to forget about the joy of riding in the open in an effort to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

The former keirin world champion who is also fondly known as ‘The Pocket Rocketman’ said Malaysians especially cyclists have to stay indoors except on urgent matters.

Acknowledging that health and fitness are important, Mohd Azizulhasni however said jogging and exercising within the housing area could be sufficient to remain active as the Covid-19 situation in the country is getting more worrying.

“I know many cycling fans want to get out but for the time being we have to accept that movement have to be controlled.

“If you really have the itch to cycle, I urge you ride a cycling trainer in the house,” said the 2016 Olympics bronze medalist in a video uploaded on his Instagram site today.

On Friday, the National Security Council (MKN) decided to enforce the first phase of total lockdown nationwide for 14 days starting today.

Based on the standard operating procedure, sports and recreational activities are only limited to jogging and exercise within the housing area while observing physical distancing of at least two to three metres. - Bernama, 2 June, 2021
