KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Competitions Committee has decided to hold two domestic hockey tournaments at the end of this year.
The Tun Abdul Razak Cup 2021 tournament is scheduled to be held from Nov 10-20, while the Malaysia Junior Hockey League (MJHL) 2021 will take place from Nov 26 to Jan 2, 2022.
MHC Competitions Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Anil Jeet Singh said that the two tournaments would be organised in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN), the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
"The organising of these two tournaments will continue, we have planned and arranged the schedules well, in addition to taking into account enough time for each player to get a vaccine injection.
"We will hold a more detailed discussion on July 25 to set the venues for these two tournaments, SOPs to be complied with and the best practices for all parties, because the organisation of the MJHL 2021 tournament especially will involve teenagers who are still in school," he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Anil said the age limit for MJHL 2021 has been raised from under-19s to under-21s for this edition, with two divisions contested for the men's category while the women's remains with one division.
He said that so far, MHC had received 10 entries from division one and 14 entries from division two teams for the men's category, while a total of 14 teams had submitted entries for the women's category.
Last year's MJHL competition had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Tun Abdul Razak Cup 2020 was held successfully without resulting in any COVID-19 infections among the players and officials involved. - Bernama, 7 July, 2021
