On July 16, Everton suspended a member of its first-team squad, Gylfi Sigurdsson, after his arrest on the suspicion of alleged child sex offences. 

Sigurdsson, since being arrested on Friday has been released on police bail.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement, "GMP officers arrested a 31-year-old man from the Bowdon area of Trafford on Friday 16 July 2021, on suspicion of child sex offences. He is on police bail pending further enquiries." 

On the following Monday, the club issued a statement confirming that they have "suspended a First-Team player".  - Agencies, 21 July, 2021
