OLYMPIC gold medallist Neeraj Chopra was admitted to a hospital in Panipat, India, on Tuesday after suffering from a high fever.
Chopra, according to media reports, was admitted after he complained of ill health at a felicitation ceremony in Panipat.
It was reported that the Indian athlete felt unwell midway through the programme and subsequently stepped off the stage to be taken to the hospital.
The javelin thrower, who was stated to have recovered shortly before India’s Independence Day, was called for a felicitation ceremony attended by India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, along with other Olympic winners of the Indian delegation.
The 23-year-old athlete, who bagged the gold in the javelin throw at the recent Tokyo Olympics, received a hero’s welcome upon his return to India.
Reports suggest that Chopra’s high fever may be due to exertion resulting from a hectic schedule. Notably, he was tested negative for Covid-19 a few days ago. – Agencies, August 19, 2021
